We love Lifestyle Crafts Detailz Dies!

Hello!  I'm here to share a video I made yesterday to show off the new Detailz Dies by Lifestyle Crafts- my pick for Product of the Week!

If you haven't used the Detailz Dies yet, you are really missing out!  By running them through the Evolution with Lifestyle Crafts rubber mat, you can add an embossed dimension to the die cut.

Here is my video showing these fun dies in action:

And, here is the card I made:

The bird is cut out of the Whitewashed Co'ordinations and sanded.  The papers are from the Echo Park For the Record 2 Line.  Here is a better look at the bird:

Isn't the embossing a fun detail?  I really love it!  Lifestyle Crafts has come out with many designs that will emboss and cut.  We currently have them all at the store so stop by to check them out!

Thanks for watching and reading about our product of the week this week!

Design Team Wednesday

In hindsight, maybe scheduling my Design Team post for Scrapdoodles immediately after moving into a new home over the weekend (following a week of "homelessness") wasn't such a great idea...  But then again, when great papers are calling my name and inspire a great layout or two, working on top of stacked boxes isn't such a hurdle!  This week I was able to get a little crafting done despite our crazy "just moved in" life at the moment.  We R Memory Keepers' new perfect-for-summer line, "Country Livin'" inspired my first layout.  As soon as I saw the "Top Notch Beef" ad on the "Town Paper" patterned sheet, I new I would create a layout featuring my favorite young man showing his beef in last year's show and sale.  The ribbon paper was the perfect complement.  We R also makes it easy to coordinate with solid cardstock by providing their own perfectly matching selections. I love how these muted tones work together.  The line makes me think of old fashioned summer picnics, parades, and activities.  I just added a bit of twine (Lawn Fawn) and bordered my 12x12 with Washi tape.  Scrapdoodles carries lots of coordinating items including We R's layered chipboard stickers and embossed stickers and die cuts.  Easy layouts for your easy-going summer memories!
Another summery line I found at Scrapdoodles is new from Elle's Studio.  This is actually more of a boy-themed line called "Cameron," but the bright colors can be used for any theme, including favorite little girls.  For this layout, I started with this great, already embellished down the side 12x12 sheet.  I used my die cut machine to cut the title directly onto the sheet and layered a couple coordinating patterned papers in the back.  I added my photo, other tags and bits from the line, a bit of ink splotches and doodling, and some brads and washi from my stash.  I love how it turned out.
Lastly for you today I put together a couple of simple cards using more pieces from these two lines.  The black stitches on the Oh Boy card is a sticker strip from SRM.

Enjoy!  I hope you get some craft time this week.  I need to get some more boxes unpacked ;)  ~Karen

Pillow Box Teacher Gifts with Pam

We are excited to have Pam sharing with us today on the blog!  Here is what she has to share about her Employee Project of the Week:

At this time of year, most of us crafty folks are making teacher gifts or graduation gifts.  My grandkids have 5 teachers and they always want to do something nice for the special teachers; art, music, PE, librarian as well. I like to remember the office staff and bus drivers too but this can get expensive.  My project this week shows how to make an elegant pillow box to hold a gift card or fill with candy or tuck in a small gift.  This project is super easy and affordable.

I started with the medium size pillow box, Teresa Collins Summer Stories "Stripes" paper,  a piece of coordinating cardstock and a tube of the new ZAZZ glitter glue (Diamond) that I've been anxious to try.  I cut 1 piece of the Stripes paper at 4" x6".  And used the Dots side on the back of the sheet.  I tucked it inside the box to determine the best fit, pinched it where the folds need to be, removed it, completed the folds and adhered the cardstock to itself with ScorTape.

I trimmed out the pink floral stripe and trimmed it to 4" x 1.5" to make the decorative piece.  I inked the edges with brown ink and adhered it to the dot piece.  These are now inserted into the box.

I trimmed out the black stripe piece and wrapped it around the outside of the box.  (A pretty ribbon would look nice instead too!)  Approximate dimensions 1" x 6 1/2".

It still needed something so I punched 3 flowers out of plain cardstock and shaped the petals.  I put a little Zazz on the center edge of each petal and I coated a brad top with Zazz for the flower center.  I had a small Prima flower on hand and used it too.    I poked a small hole in the black band and secured the flower to the band with the brad.

Thinking about it now, I could make more boxes out of the same sheet if I would've used the plain card stock but I really liked the look of the patterned piece against the dots.  In less than 5 minutes I made this second box a little simpler but just as elegant:

I made a masculine box too:

Is your gift a little bigger or smaller?  Not a problem, we carry pillow boxes in 3 or 4 sizes.

I hope that these inspire you to do something nice for the people that are important in your lives!

Design Team Wednesday.... Lyric Collection

Hello Everyone!
I made this adorable little book using the Prima Marketing paper line called Lyric Collection that I picked up from Scrapdoodles. I had sooo much of fun with this paper. The colors are so rich and so gorgeous that I was easily inspired. I downloaded the cut file for this album from Silhouette and easily cut it out using my Silhouette machine. I was able to cut everything out using my Silhouette . even the chipboard. Silhouette makes a chipboard to use with their machine. It cut like butter. I could not believe that it was a snap to put together. The book is Lori Whitlock's Chipboard pocket mini album. Each page is a pocket and Lori added extra cuts to make each insert unique. The great thing about this book is that you can customize it and make it your very own.

I personally love books that have little hidden items that make you just want to open it and explore. There are 10 pages in all. When you download the file from Silhouette  they explain that Lori has a link to watch a video on how to put the book together. The link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSC_3LDA_qA. The book is super easy and super fun. Have a Great Day!!!

Scrapping Techniques Class with Tessa

Hi there!

People have been asking for awhile for more technique based classes at Scrapdoodles.  We hear you!  :) Along with Lori, I have added a technique based layout class.  The samples are already in store if you'd like a closer look!

Here is the first layout featuring the blackboard stamping technique:

As you can see, this layout is pretty basic.  I did that to keep the cost down and to give us time to really focus on the technique.  You can switch out the 1 lager sized photo for 2 4x6 photos or multiple smaller photos as well.  You will learn how to stamp with acrylic stamps, heat embossing, and the blackboard technique.

Here is the second layout featuring a fun washi background technique:

Again, this layout can be changed to your liking... you can pick your background cardstock and washi tapes out of my collection to make it your own.  We will be learning some basics about washi, how to use gesso, and the splattering with mists technique.

This class should be a lot of fun! Here are the details:

Beginning Techniques for Scrapbookers Class w/ Tessa

Easy Recipe Organization with Susanne

Hello my fellow crafters!
I have been unhappy with the state of my recipe box for a very long time!   I can never find what I need and the cards always get wet or sticky sitting on the counter!  I had to come up with something to help!

Soooo, instead of using this 8x8 We R Memory Keepers albums for pictures, I have used it for my recipe cards- they fit perfectly! I love the idea of being able to write a note on the side bar to indicate what kind of recipe, how many it serves or who liked it.  You could also use a photo of a finished dish to give a visual reminder as to what it looked like all put together.

The albums are very easy to use and come in many sizes and colors. Hope this idea has got you thinking of all the other clever ways you could organize your life and add a little scrappy fun!
See you soon!Susanne

Guest Design Team Post - Art Journaling

Hi Everyone,

While we are finalizing our new design team, I am filling with with some of my art journal work.

One of my favorite things about art journaling is just playing with different creative mediums. There are no rules so you can play and mix things up!

I love Golden Fluid Acrylics Fluid Acrylics. They are highly intense, permanent acrylic colors with a consistency similar to heavy cream. Since they are produced from lightfast pigments, not dyes, they offer very strong colors with very thin consistencies. They are pricey but a little bit goes a long way! We have a few in stock and expect our reorder shortly.  A fun tip is to put one part paint and one part water in a mini-mister to create your own spray! Perfect to use with stencils.

Golden has several mediums to play with including the Regular Gel Medium which is perfect for adhering paper to canvas and making image transfers. I use both the Golden light molding paste and the Dreamweaver Embossing Paste with different stencils to create texture. I interchange different mediums on one page all the time. My current favorites are Faber-Castell Gelatos, Golden Paints, and Pan-Pastels.

I took the weekend off and went to Donna Downey's studio and created on 3 foot canvases! The photos below represent various stages of 2 different canvases. I used a lot of Golden Fluid Acrylics, sprays, stencils and the new Catalyst Texture tools which will be in stock next week. With Art Journaling, you can take it to any size!

To learn more, sign up for one of the Art Journal Technique Classes. Techniques change every month.

Faber Castell Watercolor Pencils

Hi everyone!  It’s Rachael, and this time, I’m stepping out of my comfy box and trying some new techniques.  Recently I’ve purchased a few stamps with the hopes of dabbling in card making.  I had not figured out to do with said stamps until one night, I discovered the Faber Castell Watercolor Pencils.

For some reason these pencils didn’t overwhelm me.  I felt like I could try them out and play with them, even if I didn’t have any artistic talent or technique.  I started out by stamping the butterfly image several times with archival ink.  I allowed the ink to dry and then colored in the butterflies using various colors.  Using a simple paint brush and some water, I then painted over the colored butterflies, and voila, a water-colored image.

I cut out my butterflies and attached them to my card base with pop dots, then stamped the sentiment and added some twine.  I love the different variations of color in the butterflies, with very little effort.

We carry several different color families at the store that would be beautiful in a wide variety of stamped images. These are so simple to use, even I can do it J  My kids were really intrigued by the process and loved watching the colors turn into a painted image.  I’ll be stamping lots of shapes for them this summer and letting them color and paint to their hearts delight.

Happy crafting
Rachael

Design Team Wednesday- Jillibean Soup Collection

Hi everyone! Today I get to highlight a super cute paper collection from Jillibean Soup: Irish Farm House Soup. The papers in this collection are really fun and have a nice vintage feel to them. I started out by making a layout using some old pictures of my brothers, a neighbor, and I biking through our favorite little forest that was outside our apartment building. I absolutely loved the paper with all the colorful bikes on them and knew I just had to use it in the layout! One of the papers had a bunch of cute sayings that were divided in rectangles. I cut out each saying and used one of them as the highlight of the page. The Jillibean Soup collection also has some adorable coordinating shape stickers and bright yellow sayings (Yellow Smile). I used those to give my page some color and interest. Using my die cut, I cut out different sized circles and lined them up on a cardstock strip. I then used my sewing machine to create a stitch right down the middle of it. Here's the finished layout:

Using the remaining papers, I decided to make a mini album. I must admit, I've never made one of these before, but I loved how it turned out! The theme was about highlighting a fun day. To make the papers thicker, I adhered them to heavy weight white cardstock. I used more of those cute sayings from the paper I cut up all throughout the album. I also used my die cut to make the whimsical circles and rectangles for the picture inserts. Here are a few pictures of the album.

Again, the pictures really don't do the layout or album justice. To get a better look and to see the rest of the album, you should definitely stop by the store. Also, be sure to check out the Jillibean Soup collection. You will love it!

Design Team Wednesday: Basic Grey Hipster...A cool, cute, and versatile collection

When Basic Grey's Hipster line arrived in the mail, I wasn't sure what I was going to scrapbook. But the more I looked at it, the more the sunglasses jumped out at me. As I looked through my pictures, this photo of Cooper with the kids seemed perfect. They are all wearing 3D glasses for movie night at home. The kids got an absolute kick out of putting these glasses on sweet old Cooper. I could not be happier that we have this picture for a memory.
This layout was created using the Hipster line, including patterned paper, chipboard buttons, and garland. The cardstock is all Bazzill and coordinates perfectly with the colors in this line. The glasses, star, arrow, and banner are all chipboard buttons and add such a cute little accent to the layout.
My second layout is also using the Hipster line, however, has a completely different feel. I instantly fell in love with the flower patterned paper and knew I had to find a photo I could use it with. I used two of the garland strips criss crossed at the bottom of the page and then embellished with a chipboard tag and chipboard button. The ribbon is a scrap from my stash. The cardstock used in this layout is also Bazzill.
A closer look at the garland and chipboard accents.

I hope you have enjoyed these layouts using Basic Grey's Hipster collection. Stop by the store and check out these layouts in person and to pick up your own supplies from this versatile line.

Michelle :)
