Closed Easter Sunday

Wishing everyone a blessed Easter Sunday! We will be closed so that our employees may spend this day with their families.

Employee Favorite Product of the Week

I am your artsy girl who loves to play with mixed media! I discovered mixed media several years ago when I met Donna Downey and it is now a staple in my studio. I am always looking for the newest products to play with. Last year I brought in Faber-Castell when Donna was here to teach. I have slowly been adding to our collection here at the store.

Here are just a few of the Faber-Castell products:

Gelatos - are creamy, smooth pigment sticks (think similar to a chapstick) that adds vibrant color to all your projects. They blend easily with your fingertips (and wash off easily) or you can dissolve them with a wet brush or mister. They are permanent, lightfast and waterproof when dry.

Gelatos colored directly onto canvas then misted and allowed to drip.

Stamper's Big Brush Pen - the high quality nib works like a paintbrush. You can create a thin or thick line depending on the pressure you use. You can use it over any surface including glitter :)  The India Ink is waterproof and it will not bleed through the paper like a marker. It is very juicy so you can rub your finger over it when first applied to move it around. They are also great for inking your stamps!

The Pitt Artist Big Brush Pen in gray traced around the inside of a stencil then blended with fintertip for a soft gray hexagon.

Pitt Pastel Pencils - unlike messy chalks, they give you the velvety chalk color without all the dust and mess. They sharpen easy to create strong vibrant lines. You can also soften the color with your fingertip or a blending stump.

Pitt Pastel Pencils colored onto manila tags with a stencil.

Each of these products are ligtfast and archival safe.

Please come by the store to see the canvas up close. We carry many more Faber-Castell products and use them frequently in my Art Journaling Technique class.

Happy scrapping!
Cheryl

Design Team Wednesday: Sweet Layouts with Authentique

As soon as the Authentique "Grace" collection arrived in the mail, I could not wait to get started on my projects. The flower pattern immediately reminded me of this picture of me as a little girl, beaming with pride in my big girl bed! I added embellishment using lace tape, an envelope adorned with patterned paper, twine, crochet flowers, and buttons. The salmon and brown are Core Color cardstock found at Scrapdoodles. All remaining cardstock is Bazzill, also sold at the store.
The envelope includes a journal block easily accessible via the button tab. I also added buttons to the center of each crochet flower using glue dots.
For my second layout, I used the cardstock stickers from this collection to create various "titles" that allow your eye to travel around the page. I love these pictures of my little ones as babies. They just seemed perfect for the titles "mommy's girl and mommy's boy." I again used lace tape, buttons from my stash, and foam squares to raise various elements of the page.
For this journal block, I covered the envelope Cheryl mailed my buttons and twine in and embellished with a cardstock sticker from the Grace collection. The envelope was a small mailing envelope, I believe in using all scraps and materials!
My last project is a card I quickly created using a cardstock sticker, leftover twine, and buttons. I love the vintage feel this collection added to this card.
I hope these layouts provide you with some inspiration! Stop by the store to see these layouts in person, they will be arriving in the next few days!

We Love POW! Glitter Paper!

Hello!  I wanted to share with you a product that I truly can't get enough of!  POW Glitter Paper by American Crafts has revolutionized the use of glitter in our scrapbooking projects!  It has a smooth finish that sparkles like crazy and the best part is that the glitter doesn't flake off and get everywhere!  You can even run it through your die cutting machines with ease!  I've created the title and hearts above using my Cameo and see how nice they came out?

The silver is my favorite because it is so versatile!  You can even color it using Alcohol inks or Copic markers.  Can you imagine the possibilities?

If you want to add a little sparkle to your project without the mess of glitter, POW Glitter Paper is perfect!  Come down and check out our selection today!

Design Team Wednesday - Spring Decor and Layouts

Happy first day of Spring!  It's Karen with a few projects that just make me happy!  I'm loving these bright colors from My Mind's Eye.  This collection is called "My Girl" and it will make you smile.  It's a great collection for spring and summer and lots of girly pages.  Don't have a girl?  Never fear!  MME thought of you, too, when they released the companion line "Boy Crazy."  The colors are a little toned down, but still have great icons and patterns perfect for a variety of scrapbooking pages and projects.  Both of these collections are currently available at the store.  For my first project with this collection, I created a fun wall or door hanging.  I started with an old frame that I spray painted a bright aqua color (I used Rustoleum American Accents in Aqua).  Using just the papers in the "My Girl" collection and inspired by the fun vibe, I cut "hello" with my die cut machine and placed it in a thought bubble outlined in grey pen dots.  The scooter (adorable!) is one of the coordinating stickers, which I backed with cardstock and attached to the outside of the frame.  The "balloon-flower-bouquet" is also made with a combination of stickers, papers and buttons stuck to lightweight floral wire and tied with 3 colors of We R Memory Keepers twine.  The butterflies are cut from one of the papers and attached with glue dots.  I just love how it turned out and it makes me happy to see it hanging!
My next project is a quick layout.  I started with white cardstock and added a few bits of the patterned paper behind my photos and as a journaling spot.  The washi tape strips and large stickers are also part of the MME collection.  I added a few of the small stickers as well and cut out small bits from the patterned papers and added them to the page.  Some of these I topped with Diamond Glaze.  I also tried a new product - a Viva Decor Pearl Pen in red.  I LOVE this stuff!  It left a wonderfully round, dimensional red pearl on my page (much like the popular enamal dots).  I was very pleased and may have to add more colors to my collection soon.

Ahh!  It won't be hard to get in the spirit of the spring scrapping season with this collection from We R Memory Keepers.  Their collection "Simply Spring" boasts a sophisticated color combination of blues, yellows, greens, coral and grey.
I chose this butterfly paper for the background of my layout.  I cut a few butterflies out and then added them back in for extra dimension and glossed them up a bit with Diamond Glaze.  I added a few strips of more coordinating papers in the collection to anchor the side and my little file folder which opens up to another photo and some hidden journaling (see the inside photo at left).  The front of the folder is wrapped in We R twine and decorated with a die cut shape from the collection and a couple of strips of washi tape.  I used a bit more washi inside on the journaling tag I made to write a sweet little note to our girl.

Inspired yet?  Go!  Take photos of adorable kiddos picking dandelions or daffodils, stop at Scrapdoodles on your way home for these or other sweet spring papers, and hurry home to scrap your spring moment!

Silhouette Heat Transfer Material

Hi everyone!  It’s Rachael, and I can’t wait to talk to you about one of my new favorite products, Silhouette’s Heat Transfer Material.  Heat Transfer Material is used with a digital cutting machine.  It is made specifically for the Cameo, but can be used in other machines, like the Cricut, as well.

I love to make custom t-shirts for my children.  I also love to make custom onesies as baby shower gifts.  Heat Transfer Material is perfect for these projects.  Simply choose an image or phrase to cut out, create a mirror image of it in your design software, then follow the directions on the box to load the Heat Transfer Material into your machine.  After your image is cut, you peel the excess material away, and place the image on your shirt.  A little ironing later and Voila!, a custom creation that will be a hit.  Here’s an example of a shirt I made for my daughter for President’s Day:

You can iron heat transfer material onto many different fabrics, so the project ideas are endless, hats, bags, favors for parties, the list goes on an on.  Stop by the store today and check out our selection of colors and styles, and get busy working on all those fabulous ideas in your head!

Happy crafting!
Rachael

New Graphic 45 French Country

Graphic 45 makes my favorite paper. When they released this new line, I ran immediately to
Scrapdoodles to pick it up. I was excited to find that they released more than the usual
paper and chipboard embellishments. They also added some thick stock tags and flowers.
Just looking at this paper (see it online here) inspired me to create this
mixed media album. The paper has so many intricate designs to allow for
all kinds of creativity. I was able to use art textures, fabric, beads, ribbons,
and pearl embelishments that fit perfectly with this line.
This book is at Scrapdoodles now if you want to stop
by and check it out for yourself!!
I used a lot of intricate cutting for this. Use a blade or a small pair of sissors when
cutting out the rooster. I glued it down to a thin piece of chipboard/cardboard
and then popped it up. The sunfowers were completed with art textures and
gold stickles.
I created page 3 by using a thick fiber. I ran a piece of chipboard along
the side for reinforcement when putting the album on rings.
The banner at the top of page 3 is an example of the tags that go along
with the line and the flower on page 2 is also part of the line.

These are probably my favorite pages in this album. I was able to use
fabric and ribbon. The raised cutout page 7 opens to and the envelope
was cut out using my Sihouette.

Pages 7 and 8 are made from a 12 by 12 kraft envelope.

Page 10 was created by placing a 12 by 12 piece of cork onto a piece of chipboard. I cut out some of the sunflowers from extra paper and used the art textures. Be careful where you cut because the rest of the flower are used on the next page.

This is the back cover of the book.
Hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed creating it!!!

Create: A Stenciling Class

Hi Everyone! Pat here, aka Teknekjunkie... lol... Embossing paste is my new obsession... along with some fun templates.  I can't stop playing with the stuff!  Ha ha!  I came up with another class using the Black Matte embossing paste by Dream Weavers over a stencil:

Some of you may have seen the video for my latest product of the week, where I did a short demo on how to use the embossing paste on a stencil.  Well, that was the foundation for this next class.  Black embossing past makes a perfectly clean and neat border, and an awesome silhouette!  I chose to use it as a border in a sweet wall decor, using inchie stamps:

In my Flutterbies class, I used the gold embossing paste and sprinkled very fine glitter on the paste while it was still wet.  In this class, I will use silver Stickles on dried embossing paste.  The pictures don't show the glitter very well but it is super cool up close and personal!  The inchies are stamped in black ink and embossed with clear powder.

Here are the class details:

SRM Stickers Are Our Favorite!

Hi everyone, it's Dawn here with my fave product of the week and this time around I picked SRM Stickers!  I am primarily a card maker and I like to stamp, but I know that a lot of people are intimidated by stamping and the SRM Stickers are an AWESOME alternative if you find the prospect of stamping a little scary, lol!  Of course they can absolutely be used in conjunction with stamping, but for my card today, there is NO ink, just an awesome Thank You sticker by SRM.  Another great thing about these stickers is that you get quite a variety of them on one sheet and they seem to have stickers for just about every occasion   Also, they are clear which makes them perfect for using on any color paper!  I whipped up this card in about 5 minutes, so if time is short, these are perfect for creating quick, fun projects!!  Don't limit their use to just cards either, you can use them on all your crafting projects!!   Stop by the store to see our wide selection of these wonderful stickers!

Closed due to weather!

We are closed today, Wednesday, March 6 due to heavy snow.  Stay warm and safe!

Design Team Wednesday

Last week my family and I took a trip to Walt Disney World.  While there I took almost 1000 photos. I kid you not! I was very excited to begin scrapbooking these photos so while I was in Scrapdoodles I began looking around to find the perfect paper.  Most people tend to fall back on the standard Mickey and Minnie Mouse paper that is mostly red, black and white.  But my photos had too much color for those papers and I really wanted to branch out on how I scrapbooked these photos. So when I came across the Jenni Bowlin "Modern Mercantile" line I immediately knew I found a winner.  The colors are soft yet bright at the same time, a mix of yellows, greens, and blues.  I had two pictures pop in to my mind that I knew would be perfect for this paper line.

My goal with these layouts was to show that you can make great layouts even with minimal embellishments. I always find paper to be a great embellishment, especially pieces that allow you to cut them apart. For this layout one of the paper pieces were rows of squares.  I cut each of the squares out and used them to build dimension on my layout.  In this photo (that I love of my husband and daughter) they are riding the Teacups at Magic Kingdom so I used yellow Thickers to highlight that. The solid paper is Bazzil. The rhinestone brads at the bottom are American Crafts.

I wanted my second layout to complement the first one so I cut apart another sheet of Modern Mercantile paper and used them at the bottom of the page as an accent. I used a scalloped piece of cardstock because it reminded me of the scalloped shell that Ariel was sitting in when we met her. Here is how the layouts look side by side:

After cutting the paper apart I realized I had a bit left over so I whipped up a quick card using all of my leftovers.

I love the flowers in the line and I really love how the teal and yellow look together. The bright yellow gives me a feeling of happiness and hopefulness which is why I used the Thickers to spell out Hope.

I hope these layouts give you inspiration to step outside the box when creating your next Disney scrapbook!
