Design Team Wednesday- RSVP BasicGrey Layouts with Sue

HOORAY for RSVP

RSVP by BasicGrey

a cutie pie & a couple of layouts to celebrate
by Sue Woolard

                         Celebrate with RSVP.
This colorful line is a great way to capture a birthday celebration for any age or gender. It just makes you happy when you mix up all the cheerful and bright papers and cool embellishments.

For DTW (Design Team Wednesday), I have strayed from my usual mini album and mixed it up with two different layouts. If you like the idea of creating 12x12 layouts with lots of leftover embellishments to make additional cards, a mini album or layout- for around $20- this project is for you.

This page uses a bunch of different textures including wood, transparencies, stickers and die cuts. Since they were short words, it was a great time to use up some leftover letter stickers. These are Bella Blvd. sticker letters with glossy accents.

This little scallop element at the bottom was actually part of the bar code strip that was "fussy cut". It never hurts to turn a little trash into treasure.

When I opened the BasicGrey die cut/transparency pack, the transparencies made me squeal with excitement they were so colorful. Using them on a white background made them "pop" off the page.

This page shows simple layering of the festive papers in this line.

Add some glossy accents to the party hat and they pop even more.

To make the balloons float off the wood element, foam tape was used.

Both of these layouts were created without many tools- just scissors and a trimmer. Stop by the store to check out RSVP by BasicGrey in person, or to see the layouts up close.

Hopefully you enjoy these quick, simple and cost effective layouts. An adorable little girl and bright and happy RSVP line is a great way to cheer up your day.

Design Team Wednesday - Snowball of Winter Fun! Acrylic Album

Snowball of Fun

Acrylic Album   by: Sue Woolard

Greetings from Texas! My family is on an adventure for several months in Texas for my husbands job, and I am missing my scrapbook room in the worst way. Before we left, I dropped of this mini album project at Scrapdoodles, knowing that winter was on the way. So, while you are frozen in, check out this project online and stop by the store when VA unthaws.

This mini album project features a 6x6 circle, Acrylic album by Clear Scraps and the Keepin' Cozy line from Echo Park. As with any project, creating an acrylic project has pro's and cons. One of the advantages can also be a disadvantage- the fact that you can see through to the other side.

The ability to see through the album makes it extremely cost effective when using double sided paper- it just involves a little more planning and "strategic adhesive targeting". Strong, liquid adhesives that dry clear are the best for acrylic, such as Helmar 450, Zip dry, etc. Upon cleaning off my scrap space, I re-discovered two classics- Stickles & Glossy accents. These were used on the snowflake stickers and pine cones. One of my favorite "go to" tools for cutting circles is the Curvy Cutter. It provides clean, crisp perfect circles with lots of size options.
This Echo Park line reminds me of home. All the things that I remember as a child....snowball fights, sipping hot chocolate and snow. Cardinals remind me of my grandmother, so they hold a special place in my heart- I knew the cover would include this adorable cardinal perched on a stick.

I love the natural texture that the stick adds (and I love that it was conveniently located in my yard). Since this Navy paper is double sided, it creates a perfect background for the inside front cover, and I didn't need to add much to complete that side.

In the photo, the swirls look like they are the background, but in reality, this is part of the acrylic album revealing the next page. The photo below shows what the page really consists of. It is so clear, you can see what my album was leaning against.
Note- when you purchase an acrylic album, they generally come with a sheath on each side that you need to peel off, prior to creating.

How appropriate that "Keepin' Warm is part of this line as this Vortex??? thing is upon Virginia. (Hopefully, you are snuggly warm inside.)

The fact that the sides show through, allows one piece of paper to highlight more than one page and allows you to use a few or as many embellishments as you would like. This makes it inexpensive and quick to create, as long as you plan- prior to adhering.

Once you have planned out the pages and what will show through, this album is super quick to assemble and complete.

Children love to pick up this size album and look at pictures of themselves all bundled up. If you haven't tried an Acrylic album, they come in all shapes and sizes and are not as overwhelming as they can appear.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this winter mini as much as I enjoyed creating it for you. Stay tuned for more creations, as I filled my vehicle with scrap stuff before hitting the road. Stay tuned for exciting things on the blog as I am sure Cheryl will be "enabling", I mean posting new releases from CHA.

Design Team Wednesday

It's that time of year to start shopping for school clothes and supplies.  I had the cutest idea when I saw the wooden box in a local craft store. I wanted to create a cute box that the kids could take their school supplies in!

For the first project I painted the box, with acrylic paints to match the Imaginisce school paper.  Next, I used Vintage Photo Distressing Ink to age the sides of the box.  I wanted to create custom charms so I used Tim Holtz's Token charms and Fragments.  The techniques I used to make them can be found in Tim Holtz's book A Compendium of Curiosities Book I.  There are so many cool techniques in both his books.  It's helpful for when you get caught in a rut.

I made a little card to give to the teacher on the first day.  It's a nice gesture to introduce yourself and your child.  Also gives you and opportunity to let her know what you can do to help in the classroom.  The stack of pencils is a cute little gift to give to her.

My next project was a layout for school pictures.  I used Pink Paislee's Old School paper and doodads.  I made my own embellishments using the Silhouette Cameo to create the gears.  I inked some, stickles some and embossed others.

I hope I have inspired you to create something beautiful and fun!!!

Employee Favorite Product of the Month!

I’ve been scrapbooking for a few years, but must admit that I haven’t really stretched my creative muscles very much. In the past few months I’ve been learning about some amazing techniques and products from our talented customers and my fellow employees! My new favorite product is Glossy Accents. It is a clear, three-dimensional gloss medium. You can use it for various projects; scrapbook pages, stamped images, and home décor, just to name a few.

A few weeks ago, one of our customers mentioned a project that she was working on. I loved the idea so much that I decided to give it a try with my six year old daughter. She is in love with dinosaurs, and has a growing affection for jewelry. It’s not that easy to find dinosaur jewelry, let me tell you, so we decided to make our own.

I purchased a Creative Imaginations bracelet and some Glossy Accents from Scrapdoodles. We used some dinosaur paper we had left from her birthday party and some Modge Podge. We cut the paper to correspond to the size of each link in the bracelet, and used the Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the bracelet. We placed three coats of Modge Podge on each link, allowing time to dry between each coat. When the links had dried we applied the finishing touch, Glossy Accents. We applied a thick coat to one side of the links with a nylon brush and let it dry overnight. Then we repeated this step on the opposite side the next day. We were thrilled with the results.

The bracelet has a few flaws, but it is perfect in the eyes of my daughter who was able to customize her jewelry, and help make it. The Glossy Accents really make it shine, and they will help protect the bracelet, even in the midst of a dinosaur dig!

Please come into the store and check out this bracelet and some of the other beautiful examples of how you can use Glossy Accents to brighten up your scrapbook layouts, cards, and crafts.

Happy crafting!
