Pam's Favorite- Copics!

Hi, it’s Pam and I’m just a big kid at heart.  I still love to color.  When Scrapdoodles gets in new stamps, the first thing I wonder is “Can I color this?”

When our order of Prima Dolls stamps came in I immediately thought of how great these would be to color and how much fun my granddaughter and I would have with them.  The stamps are large, perhaps too big for a card, (which is how I typically use my stamps) but they’d be fun on scrapbook pages and altered art projects and they are perfect for the cover of a journal example I’ve created for my upcoming 2 Cool 4 School composition book class for kids on August 14th.  (There are still spaces left, call the store to register your child.)

Large stamps are great for a variety of media;  Copic markers, Tim Holtz Distress Markers, gelatos, water color pencils, colored pencils and good old crayons.  You can also stamp them onto patterned paper, trim and paper piece the clothes, hair, etc.

I have a very large collection of Copic Markers.  My husband bought me my first set of Copics for Christmas about 3 ½  years ago and I’ve been building on it ever since.  Copics are markers developed for artists.  The ink is alcohol based and the beauty of alcohol ink is that you can use it on almost anything and the colors blend wonderfully!  You can create texture, depth and shadows easily and with a little practice you can make images really come to life.

The initial cost of the markers may be a little off-putting at first but when you stop and think about the fact that they are easily and affordably refillable, the nibs are changeable/replaceable, and Scrapdoodles carries a vast collection of markers, refills and supplies, it’s a relatively small cost for a product that will last for many years.

Scrapdoodles will be featuring Copic classes in the fall; Basics, Hair and Faces, Critters and more!  Watch the blog for more information.

We look forward to seeing you in the store and in our classes!

Happy Independence Day!

Hello my Scrapdoodle friends!

Hope you're enjoying the holiday!

Well, in honor of the 4th of July I have a few items to share...

I was itching to do a little Copic coloring, so I dug through my digital stash and came up with the perfect little digi and started there.  At the store, I had already picked up some really bright and fanciful paper and trim by Adrienne Looman for Webster's Pages.  I was all set to go, and up for the challenge to use non-patriotic papers in a patriotic way!

Here is my first project, a card:

Next, I prepared a lay-out:

Last, an invitation to a 4th of July BBQ:

So that's it! Three projects with just a few sheets of paper and one pack of luscious trim:

I am so loving the versatility of this collection!  I hope you get a chance to stop by the store and check it out for yourself.  I promise you will love it too! This paper is going to work perfectly for those holiday photos you take today!  Thank you so much for sharing your day with us, and hope you'll come by to see us soon!

Once again have a Happy 4th!  May it be a safe one!  Let us also take this time to honor our country, and those who dedicate their lives to protecting it. ♥

Big Hugs,
Yvonne

Copics are Michele's Favorite This Week!

My favorite product this time around is Copic Markers!

I have loved to color since I was a little girl- the huge box of 64 crayons was always a favorite gift for me.   I loved all the colors and shading by pressing harder or softer when coloring.   As a grown up I still love to color but now I mostly use my Copics!

I fell in love with Copics (pronounced "cope-icks") when we first started carrying them - I love the huge variety of colors but more than that I love how easy they are to blend!   I feel like they made my coloring look much better than it really is
.

Coloring for me is a stress reliever and mostly just for fun - and while I have created cards with them mostly I just color in my personal Copic coloring book!    I made this book (using my WRMK Cinch) using Copic paper and a few printouts from the Internet.

I keep a log of the color chart, color combos I like, and stamped images - some are mine, some are friends' stamps, some are samples from online.   I also have a sheet of acetate that is removable so I can place it behind whatever image I am working on so it doesn't bleed through.

I also happen to be one of the Copic teachers at the store - so I get to share my love of Copics and teach others how fun they are!!!!!

Subsequently, after the birth of twins, she quit her high-tech career at IBM to be home with her growing family. "This is when creativity became a survival skill!" she says.

She is a Certification Trainer for Copic Marker / Imagination International as well as being a certified and/or endorsed instructor for Ranger and Tattered Angels. Her style is eclectic and she loves to make each project unique, interactive and indulge her creative side. She has appeared on HGTV, featured in a couple of segments of the "That's Clever!" television program. She is also developing online classes with 'Big Picture Scrapbooking'. Her work has been published in Legacy/Somerset Memories, Paper Crafts, Rubber Stamper and Stamper's Sampler Take Ten and Creative Jewelry.
