I find inspiration in random things and places but, usually when I get inspired I don't have the time to get busy creating. My answer to this problem was to create a mini book where I can store those random pictures, quotes and "stuff" until I have time to play. As chance would have it Crate Paper has a collection of paper called "Random." I just had to use it, I also added some October Afternoon "Farmhouse" and some Lily Bee Design papers. The book is filled with pockets, envelopes and tags... tons of places to keep my random stuff.

My other project this week is a mini book... that shows how an assortment of different papers, (I think I used about 10-12 papers) can create a wonderful background for a random collection of photos from my trip to San Antonio. The book is still a work in progress, but I wanted to share it anyway, because you can really see the mosaic feel of the pages.

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone's enjoying this brief spell of unseasonably warm weather. I've got a few layouts to share with you today. The first features October Afternoon's fabulous Farmhouse collection. The title is the first initial of each kid's name, which made perfect sense to me until my 16-year-old son asked, "What the heck is tadma?" Oh well, I still like it and I adore all of the papers and embellishments in this line.

I hope you're not totally sick of Christmas pages, because that's what I'm scrapping these days. I love the Lost & Found Christmas line by My Mind's Eye so much that I accidentally bought it twice. No worries, though...it will definitely get used. If you're a bit intimidated by patterned papers like this one that have large bold elements, I find that a single simple photo, especially a black and white one, works well.

I say this all the time in my posts, but the next page is so much prettier in person. If you click on the photo, you can see just how intricately the Silhouette can cut designs like the frame I used to mat the photo. The background was created using one of Pink Paislee's Mistables resist papers. These papers start out white with various patterns of resist ink, and it's up to you to make them beautiful using whatever combination of spray inks, ink pads, watercolors, etc you like.

I sprayed the paper with red (Mister Huey's Schoolhouse), two greens (Maya Mists avocado and October Afternoon Sprinklers Spruce Tree), and metallic gold (Maya Mists), and then used a tissue to dab the excess spray off the resist areas. I love the way it turned out. I also love those gold Thickers alphas.

I hope you get some time to create something today!

Notations Mini Book Class

Hope you are enjoying your week! I've got some photos of my upcoming class to share today. I'll be teaching this great mini book on Saturday, January 28th:

The Notations line is perfect for just about any theme. I used it to showcase my favorite family photos from 2011 but you could create this book for any occasion.

You can see that each page is a little different. Little tags, tabs, and envelopes make this book a lot of fun!

I've added lots of little details here and there. I added color with a few of my favorite mists as well.

The kit comes with plenty of diecuts and letter stickers to decorate each page any way you'd like to.

"I Resolve" Layout
Do you make New Year's Resolutions? Do you write them down somewhere and then put it away? Why not create a layout and hang it up somewhere to remind you of your goals?
For this layout, I picked up some fun American Crafts products - from the CHAP line. I normally scrap very girly pages so it was a nice change of pace for me to use these more "boyish" papers. I used my die cut machine (Cricut) to cut out the letters and numbers. The coordinating chipboard shapes help add a little interest and dimension behind my numbers.

"Love" Layout and Quick Bookmarks

I was "lovestruck" by the wonderfully sweet selection of Valentine's Day papers and embellishments available in the store now. The neat thing about a lot of these papers is that they can be used in all sorts of layouts. I could see many of these sweet sentiments in baby layouts, general "love" and anniversary layouts, wedding, and in my layout here - just a fun shot of my daughter on the eve of her 3rd birthday. Try to think outside the box when looking at and picking out holiday-themed papers. They may be more versatile than you think!
For this layout I used 2 patterned papers from We R Memory Keepers "Love Struck" collection. Also from this collection you can see one of the super adorable bottlecap embellishments (I think I may have to make a hair bow for Hannah with one of these) and two of the tags or mini cards from the "cupid" 12x12 sheet. I am also using some ribbon from Pebbles. I cut the heart with my Cricut and trimmed a bit off the background sheet before giving it a white border.

Check out the sheet of tags in the "Love Struck" line - they are so cute!

I used two on my layout and then made two quick bookmarks. I added a little ribbon and then adhered a triangle pocket on the back of the tag so it sits snuggly on the corner of my bookpage. (You can see front and back views in these two pics) I'm thinking I will make a few quick and easy cards with the remaining tags on the sheet. One of the tags says "Love at first sight" and I think it would be perfect on a baby layout or new baby/baby shower card.

Fun with Basic Grey

I did two page layouts this time & decided to do a little something different with a canvas project. In all three I used paper from the new line of Basic Grey. In the first layout I had fun with Gesso mixed with Claudine Hellmuth modern red paint & then stamped in it with the Jenni Bowlin damask foam stamp.I love mixing textures so I added Burlap with jute to make the heart around my picture & just began layering by using rub-ons and Prima flowers.The Studio Calico wood veneer banner pieces come in a natural color but they are so easy to paint any color you want.I painted mine black to add a finishing touch to go with my layout.In my second layout I used the Studio Calico veneer houses nestled in with my prima flowers.I left them their original color so it would fit in better with my color scheme.Then I finished with Websters pages ribbon, Pink Paislee mistable ribbon, Making memories Paper Reverie brads,Tim Holtz journaling tags, and of course Prima flowers.In my last project I used all the scraps from the other page layouts to create this fun Geisha Girl on a canvas.I used Dragonfly Blue glimmer mist to add the lantern with the Creative imaginations template. I then used the 6x6 tear drop template designed by Julie Balzar with Gesso instead of a glimmer mist.I used Basic Grey rub-ons to add trim on her dress & just to add more to my background.I did a little doodling & lastly I used stickles to add a little bling to the project.

Happy Wednesday everyone! Nikki here, and today I'm going to share with you some ideas for very simple Christmas cards!

First up is a card that features Pink Paislee papers and dimensional sticker, brown Tim Holtz ink and a tiny stamp from the "Christmas" stamp set by Karen Foster Designs.

My next card is even more simple-- one layer, with one stamp in one color! Too add a little extra something, I stamped the image on the inside of the card after I used a die to cut an oval from the front panel. I glued on a plastic rhinestone to the satin bow for some extra shine. The reindeer image is from the same set as the snowflake above.

This next bunch is a set of three skinny cards made by using (1) 8.5 x 11" piece of card stock as the base for all three, accents from a piece of decorative paper from Echo Park, and dimensional felt stickers from SEI. The Merry Christmas sentiment is from a stamp set by Pebbles, called Welcome Christmas.

The buttons on this one are from my personal stash, but make a fun alternative border-- especially when you have a busy patterned paper that can be the star of the show!

You can't get much more simple than this! A red background panel, small piece of patterned card stock with scallops punched at the bottom, and a tiny white card stock border, topped with a dimensional felt sticker.

This card is also super simple-- red card stock topped with a panel of patterned paper, a strip of aqua card stock for a pop of color, and a square of white topped with a dimensional felt sticker.

Winter Wonderland Canvas Class

In this class, Dawnette will be focusing on some great techniques using masks. She will show you how to use them to create a background with pretty snowflakes. She will also show you how to embellish using spackle and Mica flakes to create a wintery wonderland landscape. This is the perfect project to welcome in the upcoming winter season!

Christmas Inspiration from Design Team

I'm sharing several projects with you today that are sure to get your creative juices flowing with holiday spirit! I used the super-adorable papers from Echo Park's Holly Jolly Christmas line on the first set of projects. Mixed in are some chipboard shapes from Little Yellow Bicycle and trims from My Mind's Eye.

First, check out this chevron paper! I cut it at 11 inches square, rounded the corners, and layered it on brown then white for my background. I cut the tree shape and title with my Cricut. Then I just added layers of patterned paper and chipboard. I couldn't resist cutting off a little pompom and tying it onto the chipboard frame with a bit of twine.

Next, I've seen a lot of painted or covered clothespins around the blogs and on Pinterest and thought a set of them would be a cute little gift. I made mine magnets and thought the recipient could use them to hang their holiday greetings or lists up on the fridge. The EP die cut sheet had some perfectly sized little label/title cuts. The labels were a bit shorter than the clothespin, so I just covered the tip of each clothespin with red glitter. They sort of remind me of reindeer noses. I attached self-adhesive magnet to the back of each clothespin and made a little card to keep them all together.

I couldn't stop using up all the paper, so I decided to make some cute ornaments, too.

When I ran out of EP Holly Jolly paper, I turned to Little Yellow Bicycle's Winter Twig. I really loved the white and brown with the bright blues. I decided to make a garland from the 3 sheets I picked up and the little pack of mini pompoms. I simply cut some scalloped circles out with my Cricut and then strung them together with the little pompoms using fishing line and a needle. I tied the ends to a small piece of blue pipe cleaner that I bent and secured into a circle. That way nothing slid off and the loops on each end make the garland easy to hang. I did add some glitter glue across each of the circles as an after thought. The fishing line was a bit slippery and the glitter glue I spread on the circles helped secure the line in place. I think it will look great on a little mini Christmas tree with some blue or white lights. Design Team Inspiration

Just a quick post today, since I haven't packed a thing for tomorrow's Scrapdoodles retreat! Somehow I ended up with a polka dot theme to these projects, but I'm loving it. This first page features Lily Bee's Head Over Heels collection and the new Pow! glitter paper from American Crafts. I have waited a long time for a glitter paper that would work with die cut machines, and the Pow! cuts like a dream in the Silhouette and with the Slice. The big flower is from Bo Bunny.

The polka dots on this quick and simple page are courtesy of Bo Bunny...they have so many gorgeous colors that are solid on the back. The tickets were originally a very bright yellow, but a few spritzes of Studio Calico's Mister Huey Sunshine mist remedied that. The font on the glittery pink American Crafts Thickers is my new favorite--so fun and festive. (Star clip by Amy Tangerine for AC, brad by My Minds' Eye, jewels by Doodlebug)

And lastly for today, this mini-album by Amy Tangerine is the project I'll likely be working on at the retreat this weekend. Chevrons are hot right now so I thought I'd take a stab at them for the cover of the little book, again using the Bo Bunny Back to Backs cardstock, as well as some Studio Calico chipboard alphas and October Afternoon Mini Market alpha stickers.

Halloween Treat Holder

Nikki here, and my post today is a quick how-to on creating a cute Frankenstein treat wrapper for Halloween! I came up with this wrapper for my son's class, and he was even able to help with putting these together.

You will need a 2.25 x 10" strip of green Bazzill card stock, scored at the 1" and 4.5" marks. You will also need various scraps in black, white and the same green. I used a tab punch, 2 circle punches (sizes 1/2" and 3/4") and a border punch for the details. I made Frankie's cheeks rosy using chalks, and his nose sticks out with the help of a 3D dot. I cut the strips for his mouth free hand.

Step 1:

Cut and score your 2.25 x 10" piece of card stock.

Step 2:

Fold and adhere the flap.

Step 3:

Punch a strip of black hair using your border punch of choice and adhere his hair to the flap you already glued into place.

Step 4:

Punch out eye pieces, nose and head bolts (aka tab punch) and adhere.

Add color to cheeks with chalks.

Step 5:

Add mouth detail and treat.....

Design Team Projects

I'm a couple of days late for Design Team Wednesday, but I come bearing three fresh projects. The store is jam packed with great new products...it's so inspiring that you might even see another project from me this weekend.First up is a layout using the Lost & Found 2 collection from My Minds' Eye. All of the Lost & Found lines are so beautiful and fancy that I run the risk of hoarding them; saving them for that perfect photo that never comes along. This page features three fairly unflattering self-portraits my daughter and I took on a recent trip to New York. The photos themselves aren't amazing but the memories are, and that makes them worthy of this gorgeous paper and embellishments. The little line of stitching was done using the We R Memory Keepers SewEasy tool and threads.

Now that my kids are teenagers, I don't get any cute costumed Halloween photos to scrapbook, so my Halloween creativity goes into home decor projects like this banner made from the adorable Mischievous line, also coincidentally by My Minds' Eye. I adore every pattern on both sides of this line, and it fits perfectly with my decorating style. The alphabet stickers are American Crafts Thickers. (I just realized that I made the nesting boxes in the photo in 2008, with that year's My Minds' Eye Halloween line. I'm sensing a theme.)

Am I alone in thinking of my layouts in two different categories? As much as I would like for my "event" pages to be as artsy as the single-photo pages, it often just doesn't work. That doesn't mean that I like the simpler pages any less, though. The Apple Cheddar Soup line from Jillibean Soup was perfect for these fall pictures, even in small quantities. The background block for the title was created using the Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection from Core'dinations that I embossed with my Epic Six and sanded (click the photo to see it bigger). I'm a big fan of kraft in general, and this cardstock is really fun to play with. I also love that the paper packs come in two sizes.

Hey Everyone!

Lisa here... with some ideas for using your TENSeconds Studio metal, molds and tools. You've seen my layouts and some 3-D art. But what about using metal on cards and art journal pages. Well, I've been working on my art journal lately and here are a few examples of how you can add metal to those pages.

The first page shows the rose mold embossed on "Hot Pink Diamonds" and a green metal. The roses and leaves were cut out separately and attached together using a humungo tape sheet. The background technique is created on Claudine Helluth's sticky back canvas using gel medium and a stencil. Once the gel is dry you can add a Ranger colorwash to finish the look.

The next page sample is done using a butterfly mask and Glimmer Mists from Tattered Angels.

Once that was dry I added black pen detailing around the image of the butterfly. Flowers from the daisy mold were embossed on "Peacock" metal and individually cut out. Metal flowers were added along with some other die cut flowers to finish decorating the page.

The third sample shows flowers with metal stems. The design was created by placing die cut flowers on the blank page and then misting over them with blue and green Glimmer Mists. Once the mists are dry you can remove the die cut flower pieces, to reveal the white underneath. Did you know you can use a paintbrush to add Glimmer Mists?? Well, that's just what I did. I "colored" in the flowers with a variety of mists. Once dry, I added the details with a black pen and the metal stems.

Okay, now for the card... I needed a wedding card and I had a bunch of scraps on my desk (including a piece of metal and some embossed cardstock), so here's what I made. I used "Periwinkle" metal and embossed the harlequin mold and one of the mini mold designs. I sanded the diamond pattern so that the color was only in the debossed areas. I added some sequins and bling to those areas. Each layer of the cake is different, alternating between metal and embossed papers. I finished the card by adding some bits of ribbon.

I hope these samples inspire you to go "metalize" something.

Pumpkin Patch Class

This layout is great for all those pumpkin patch and corn maze pictures you just took or the ones you have from past years and have not scrapbooked yet.

You will learn some great techniques!! We will learn how to create these great distressed pumpkins from plain chipboard using acrylic paints, Tim Holtz's Distressing Inks, and Distressing Crackle Paint Clear Rock Candy. Other techniques you will be using / learning is inking to age the paper and paper tearing.

The paper collection we are using is from We R Memory Keepers Fall Collection. Come have some fun and learn some new techniques.

Happy Fall! from My Little Yellow Bicycle and Design Team

Come in and check out Little Yellow Bicycle's fall line, "Hello Fall!" and you'll "fall" in love just like I did. These papers are beautiful - the colors are rich and vibrant and the details are so wonderful. Then I looked at the embellishments all hanging happily together, and "Wow!" I wanted everything! The best part is that I could see using the embellishments beyond my scrapbook page and onto some fun accessories and home decor. I first started with my scrapbook page, combining a few of the double sided papers and a strip from the border sheet. I mimicked that "happy Fall" cluster again in the upper left for my title. I added some punched circles and some of the fabric and chipboard embellishments. It came together quickly (so nice when the paper itself inspires the layout design!) and is perfect for any type of fall photos, like these of Miss H. playing in the leaves last year.

When I saw the package of felt flower embellishments, I knew I wanted to use them for hair barrettes and they worked out perfectly. I also used the 2 fabric buttons on barrettes - too cute! After I made the barrettes, I decided to make a little hanger for them out of ribbon and a chipboard tree.

Next on my list of projects with this cute line was a little banner for my door. I dug out 4 pieces of Maya Road chipboard shapes and covered them with paper and embellishments. It was so easy and I love how it turned out! I did sand the edges of most of the pieces to help them stand out against each other, but other than that, I didn't alter much of anything. I punched holes using my Crop-a-dile and used medium width ribbon and then a piece of twine to string it together.

If you want to see these projects in person and add some of this line to your stash, I recommend you hurry out to Scrapdoodles and pick it up. You'll have lots of fun using the paper and the large assortment of embellishments on your layouts and anything else your creative mind can think of! I think I may have to get some more, too, before it's gone. See you at the store!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Scrapdoodles is stocked full of fun new papers and embellishments, and you can't help but be inspired once you walk in. On that note, today I have three, fall-themed cards to share with you.

Ingredients: Stamps and Decorative Paper: Imaginisce {You Rule}; Copics; Cardstock: Bazzill: Red, White; Accessories: 3D Dots.

Ingredients: Stamps: Unity {Lollipop Tree U and Me}; Decorative Cardstock: Creative Imaginations {Samantha Walker}, American Crafts {Nightfall: Starry Night}; Copics; Ribbon: American Crafts; Accessories: Button, Twine, Glue Dots.

On this card, I created little spiders using the iTop brad punch. I simply punched out the shape on black cardstock, and snipped two legs from each side (to make a total of eight on each spider), matted it on decorative paper, added googley eyes and added a string.

February 24-26, 2012 Retreat Filling Fast!

We are filling up fast for our 2nd retreat at the beautiful Wyndham Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center in Glen Allen Virginia. The location is conveniently located just north of Richmond and only 45 minutes south of Fredericksburg.

This is one of the only locations where you will receive a 6 foot by 30 inch table per person and an ergonomic chair (one less thing to pack)! Electricity is included, so pack your digital die-cutting machine, Ott Lite, heat gun, computer, etc.

Breakfast and lunch is included on Saturday and breakfast and a Champagne Brunch in included on Sunday and will be served in the restaurant. There are plenty of choices for every appetite. There is the most amazing dessert bar! There will also be late night snacks Friday and Saturday.

We will have an on-site store for your shopping needs. The door prizes and goody bags have already been arriving for both retreats :D The November Retreat has been sold out for quite a while!

Hello!

I've got a fun class coming up on October 8th and I wanted to share- we will be making these three spooky houses:

The houses are made of wood and stained with the new Distress Stains. They are decorated with a mix of the hot new Halloween lines by Echo Park and My Minds Eye and embellished with lots of fun, spooky details:

What to Bring: your basic kit (adhesive- a good strong one), paper trimmer, scissors, and a pencil) as well as a black ink pad and applicator if needed. We are going to be inking a lot of edges! Also, if you have a score board tool or a 3/4" circle punch, please bring it along, too.

Cropping for the Cause! ScrapPink!

We are at the store cropping for the Cause! Proceeds will be donated to Monique Rea's Walk to Fight Breast Cancer which will be on Saturday, October 22 in Alexandria. This is the 18th Annual Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. For more information on the walk, please click here.
Monique is a long time friend of Scrapdoodles and a long term survivor of Breast Cancer. She was diganosed with cancer in her twenties. Her mother was also fighting the disease and passed away during this time. Monique's spirit and optimism is an inspiration to us all!

We have a beautiful Hot Pink Bo-Bunny Purse with paper that we are raffling off for a dollar a ticket. All proceeds will be donated to Monique's Walk. Drawing to be held October 17. Winner will be notified by phone.

Vintage Fun

For my design team pages this time I decided to use some of my vintage photos. I have a stash of old photos that I've picked up at antique stores that I always "save" for a cool project.I bit the bullet and decided to use a couple of them in two layouts.I had to use one layout with my beautiful daughters.In all of these pages I used the new My Mind's eye line,Prima flowers galore,accessories from the Vintage Vogue line by Pink Paislee,& ribbon accessories from the Stella Rose line.I love stickles so in each page there is some glitz,& also glossy accents.On one of the pages I used my white Gelly roll pen to do a little tracing over the design to create the look of doodling in the background.In the two pages where I used the vintage photos I wanted to show that it can be just as much fun to play with vintage ephemera in creating layouts as it is using family photos.Breaking away from the norm can be fun. It's all about having fun and letting your creative side out.

We have some exciting news; Jen Starr is coming on Sunday, October 9 to teach two inspiring classes! Jen Starr is a fully Certified and Ranger Recognized Instructor. She was the 2007-2008 Design Team Coordinator for Ranger Industries and continues to teach and do private design work for them. She enjoys being a Golden Ambassador for Tattered Angels, an Endorsed Instructor for Prima and was the Lead Creative Designer for Canvas Concepts. More recently she has become certified with Ten Seconds Studio and has added some metal work to her inky class line-up! Jen has designed several signature product lines and her projects have been featured in many publications in the US and Europe including the "Ink Essentials" book. Her two classes are listed below, and we expect them to fill up fast!

DISTRESSED DENIM MINI-BOOK

$45 (3 hour class)
10am-1pm

This comfortably distressed 6x9" mini-book will be created with a mix of fun materials and media including denim, corrugated cardboard, chipboard, kraft paper, Basic Grey new "Out of Print" line, burlap, Crafter's Workshop Templates, embellishments made from Tim Holtz dies and texture fades, a little paint and more...

During the creative process, we will concentrate on techniques using Tim's new DISTRESS STAINS, creating some interactive elements plus some fun and unique stamping techniques...Oh, and just wait until you see how we are going to distress the denim!!

By the end of class you will have a great chunky book brimming with techniques!

**NOTE** PLEASE wear OLD clothes as we will be incorporating bleach in to some of the techniques!!
Please bring to class: a variety of adhesives (Helmar's 450 Craft Glue or Fabri-tac or Beacon's 3 in 1 works great for denim and burlap is you have it), Heat gun if you have one, paper trimmer, scissors and something to punch holes such as a Big Bite or crop-a-dile.

Take your creativity up a few notches with this little book that packs a punch with all of the techniques you will learn!

You will construct this chubby little mini-book from a Tim Holtz Die but we will be focusing on an easy stitched book binding technique and working with Distress Stains in a variety of ways. Plus we will mix in some Idea-ology embellishments, Sticky Back canvas, my favorite Basic Grey Paper, Tim's stamps from Stamper's Anonymous, Texture fades, fabric, Stickles and put it all together to make a fabulous little book ready for you to scrap or add your art journaling!

They say the best things come in small packages and this is no exception...the ideas and techniques in this class will have your mind imagining all of the things you will be able to create next!!

Disney Shadow Box Class with Lori

I'm so excited to post about a new class we've added to our October calendar! Lori came up with a fabulous project to showcase one of her family's favorite memories- their trip to Disney World! Lori has created a beautiful 12x12 shadow box to frame a wonderful picture of the famous Cinderella's castle. She'll show you how to superimpose a black and white family photo onto the colored photo so that it really pops. She'll also share her technique to create the patterned paper 3-D burst frame- isn't that cool? There are so many little details that Lori has added that make this project really special- take a look:

While in class, you can also talk to Lori about her favorite place- Disney World! She is an expert on all things Mickey and has some great tips if you are planning a trip down. She'll even tell you how she managed to take such great pictures all around the park!
