Employee Favorite Product of the Week

One of my favorite products is 6x6 paper pads. Most paper lines now-a-days comes with a cute 6x6 pad that contains multiple sheets of patterned paper that are the same as the 12x12 paper. The difference is that the print of the 12x12 has been made small enough to fit on the 6x6 sheet. It is perfect to mount pictures for your layouts, card making, perfect size for mini albums and small projects. Another thing I like about the 6x6 paper pads is that in general, I do not tend to use the entire 12x12 sheet. I feel I am left with tons of scraps that I end up throwing away. The pad, consisting of small sheets, allows me to pick and choose papers as I wish without making a mess and wasting paper. The best part is that its all in a book form. Easy storage and I can pull out paper as I see fit. I have become simply addicted to buying these pads because they are just so versatile! I can not resist them. :) {Carley}

Design Team Wednesday with Carey and Graphic 45

The Nutcracker Sweet Chipboard Album

This album is made with the beautiful "Nutcracker Sweet" paper line from Graphic 45. Many people choose not to use this paper because of the graphic images. They might feel that they don't want to cover up any of the wonderfully detailed graphics on the paper with other pictures. Making a mini album is an easy and fun way to use Graphic 45. The above is the cover of my album. I cut my chipboard at 10 1/2 by 10 1/2 to make the pages for my album.
One technique I like is to cut out little pieces of the main pictures and pop them up. I mount the little pieces on additional chipboard or use foam dots for a dimensional look. I also added dew drops and diamond dust for some bling and ribbons and some of Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage Trims. This mini is full of details and interactive features such as fold-out booklets, tags, and envelopes.  There is still room for adding photos to really personalize your album.
Do be afraid to put pictures on the outside of your album as well. I really like the idea of chipboard albums and printing out your pictures in many different sized and gluing them throughout the book.
When I was creating this album, many people asked why I placed things a certain way. I love albums where you can find something new everytime that you look at it.  There are more photos on my blog and you can see my album in person at Scrapdoodles.  I had alot of fun creating this and I hope that you enjoy and are inspired to use some Graphic 45 in your next project.  ~ Carey

Design Team Wednesday - Halloween Wreath

Scrapdoodles has an awesome selection of fall and Halloween papers and embellishments right up towards the front of the store and, if you're anything like me, you will be standing there a long time trying to decide what to go home with.  :)  Oh this paper addiction!

I recently saw this rolled paper wreath video tutorial from Graphic 45, and thought a fall or Halloween theme would be great.  With that project in mind, I chose (finally) some double sided papers from We R Memory Keepers' "Black Widow" line.  You can see the whole line here, and of course at Scrapdoodles.  I picked out the coordinating "Happy Halloween" embellishment for the middle of the wreath (I added some more paper ovals to give it more "weight") and when I saw the cute metal charms, I knew I HAD to use them somehow, too.  I added an eyelet to the ends of some of the paper cones for strength and hung the charms with some Tim Holtz jump rings I had in my stash.  Generally, I followed the tutorial from Graphic 45 with just a few changes.  Instead of a chipboard backing, I used a scrap piece of foam board,
since I had that on hand.  I also used a bit of foam board in the middle behind my center ovals and embellishment.  In the tutorial, the paper cones are attached with staples.  I had some difficulty with that, so I ended up using hot glue more than the staples.  I love how this wreath turned out.  An added bonus is how the little charms jingle on the door - love it!  It's easy to create.  The hardest part was trying to decide which papers to use!

Of course I can't let a Design Team week go by without a layout.  For this week's layout, I chose a few papers from Echo Park's Halloween line, "Chillingsworth Manor."  You can see the whole line here.   Lots of cute and spooky details in this collection!  I took home a sheet with spiders and polka dots and knew I had some cute photos of my daughter with spider cookies that I could use.  My layout includes a combination of lines - Echo Park, some of my leftover scraps from the We R Memory Keepers collections, and some sticker elements from Authentique's Halloween line, "Enchanted."   Man - there is a lot of good stuff out there for all your Halloween, pumpkin, and spider photos and projects!

For this layout, I punched several circles and simply straight stitched them right to the page in a line.  It's a great way to add lots of pattern and texture to your layout.  My title was cut with Echo Park papers.  I used my Cricut and the "Happy Hauntings" cartridge along with some sticker elements from Authentique.  I also used another sticker element (the spider and the fly quote) off to the side and added some Black Diamond Stickles to the two spiders.  At the last minute I added a thin black cardstock frame with distressed inside edge.

I had a few scraps left, so I cut some 3/4 inch by 5 inch strips to make this little paper pumpkin.  I just used brads to hold the strips together and then fanned them out and shaped them into a pumpkin.  With a few more paper scraps and a leaf punch, I added the stem, vines, and leaf.  I could see several of these decorating a table this fall.
So, while the picking is good, visit Scrapdoodles and pick up some fall/Halloween collection papers.  I hope you have an easier time deciding than I did ;)
Happy Scrappin'!  Karen

Design Team Post

Authentique's line called "Curiousity" provided me with inspiration in a few differemt ways. An obvious choice was of course a school themed layout. I chose to scrapbook my son Reid's first day of Pre-K since the colors lend themselves to a little boy. I used the sticker accents to create banners beside his picture as well as the title "First Day of Preschool." In order to add a little dimension, I used pop dots to raise various elements of the layout.

Perhaps a little less conventional use of this paper is illustrated here in the layout of our beloved dog Cooper. I liked the play upon "measurement" using the patterned paper. For those who know our family, our love for Cooper is without a doubt beyond measure.

In the midst of school shopping, I noticed "lunch box notes" to place in your child's lunch box as a little something special from home. I decided this collection could provide the perfect look for homemade lunch box notes for my son. What a great way to use small scraps left from the previous layouts as well. I like to use every piece of a collection that I can!

Here is a closer look at one of the lunch box notes where I used Stickles to accentuate the strings of the guitar.

I hope these projects have provided you with some inspiration to get out there and do some scrappin'!

Employee Product Of The Week

Hey there, it's Dawn, back with another employee product of the week.  My latest obsession, like many others right now, is washi tape!!  Oh boy!  Washi tape originates from Japan and is kind of like masking tape...... only REALLY, REALLY cool masking tape!  It comes in all different colors and patterns and is just so fun to play with.  It seems that every company has started making washi tape.  You can use it on your cards, layouts or even use it when wrapping a gift among various other uses.  It tears very easily and it is so much fun to die cut, as I did on my card.  I guarantee you won't be able to buy just one roll of it and you will want to put it on everything!  Most washi tapes are acid free, making it safe to use on your scrapbook pages.  We carry a great selection of washi tape, so come in to Scrapdoodles and pick some up for yourself.  You won't be sorry:)

Employee Favorite Product of the Week!

Hi my name is Susanne and I am a paper addict! I have a feeling I am in good company. When I see a new line that I love and have to have, I try to find a purpose to justify the purchase. The first thing that comes to mind are pictures that may work with it for scrapbook pages…but I have two boys and some of the paper I like is not going to work for them. Next I think about how it may work for card making. My most recent project was how it could be used to repurpose a plain object and make it fun and interesting. It is a challenge to think outside the box and in the end you can really end up with some creative projects! Pictured is an old lunch box my husband got as a giveaway at work. I loved it and immediately thought it would be cute in Christmas paper to keep cards in or give filled with baked goods! So start looking for fun things to repurpose and come on in and check out all the fantastic paper lines we have just gotten in!

Design Team Wednesday

It's that time of year when the kids are back into their school activities. This month I was inspired my daughter, Keni, and her dancing.

Now, I have to warn you this is not for the crafter that does not want to get messy because you are going to with the products I used!!! American Craft and T!m Holtz have come out with some great products to make your projects sparkle!

For the first project I used my Cameo to cut out the ballerina figures.  I used Silhouette's double-sided adhesive sheets for the images, put them down on white card stock,  and then I sprinkled American Crafts WOW!! Glitter (black).  I placed the images in dollar frames that I painted black.  I hot glued the ribbon to them. Now Keni has something for her room!

For the next project, I used my Cameo again to cut out the ballet shoes onto white card stock. Next, I used American Crafts's SPARK! Tinsel (cotton candy) to cover the shoes. I adhered ballet pattern paper from Creative Imaginations to the back of a shadow box. Then I placed the shoes on black card stock and adhered it to the ballet paper. I added a bow another home decor project done!!

For my final project, I used the Cameo to cut out the scalloped edge on black card stock. I also used it to cut the frame for the picture, the label below the picture and the ballerina.  I can't begin to tell you  how in love I am with my Cameo!!! It is the best Mother's Day present I ever got.  Christmas is coming maybe you should start hinting now to the hubby, kids, and family!!!

I got super excited for a moment there :) Back to the project.....of course I could not just cut out the ballerina and sick her on the layout. I had to ink her with Distressing Ink and use T!m Holtz's new Distress Stickles dry glitter (clear rock candy). The pattern paper is from Creative Imaginations. The flowers are from Kaisercraft. The pearls are from Queen and Co. The number 3 is from T!m Holtz.

So there are my projects for the month! I will have glitter on me from now until after the holidays, but it is so much fun to get messy!!!

I hope I have inspired you to create this month.  I have more up my sleeve for the next few months. Ideas are screaming in my head to get out!!! I can't wait to show you!
